Ten Tips for Keeping Your Holiday Weight Under Control:

As winter time rolls around and the Holidays Grow near we all tend to pack on a few extra pounds. Between mom's home cookies, an extra pint of Christmas Ale, or a second helping of Ham or Turkey and we are all doomed to put on a few pounds.

Nutrition consultant Lee Ann DiBiase MS,RD brings us 10 quick little tips to to keep the holiday weight under controls.

  1. Look for non-food activities during the holiday season. Check the local parks, ice rinks, pools for special times.
  2. Switch to SMALL plates for those special dinners.

  3. Always start with a salad or a broth based soup at dinner.

  4. Do not starve yourself-be sure to eat before starting activities.

  5. Be prepared-pack snacks when shopping so you do not have to eat at the food court or snack bar.

  6. Have a plan before going to holiday parties. Pick those foods that are special and have a taste.

  7. Stay away from the buffet table. Use a small plate take what you want and then move away.

  8. Be sure to limit alcohol. For every drink have two glasses of water.

  9. Eat before a dinner party-have some crunchy veggies and skim milk before you go.

  10. Remember-if you do over-indulge tomorrow is another day. Reduce caloric intake and increase your physical activity.
