Park Tool Chain Gang

The Chain Gang Cleaning System: One of the most common problems with drive chains is keeping it clean and shifting smoothly. A dirty drive train causes poor shifting and unnecessary wear to expensive parts, plus the crap gets on your clothing, car seats, your trunk carpet or whatever else. Then finally you end up using kitchen towels to clean your chain, then your wife is mad at you, then you have to go sleep on the couch (not that this as ever happened to me).

Three are solutions out there, all it takes is swinging by the bike shop and spending a few bucks. The ChainGang contains everything needed to quickly and easily clean the chain, cassette and chain rings. The ChainGang includes a CM-5 Cyclone Chain Scrubber, GearClean Brush, and an 8 oz. bottle of BIO ChainBrite.

Set up is pretty basic on a road or mountain bike, if you have a single speed it could to be a challenge (sorry SS riders, we do not have one to test this on). All you do is open up the chain scrubber and close it around the chain (once you see it in action, it will be self explanatory), add cleaning solution, and back pedal. In order to save cleaner I always wiped as much down with a paper towel or something first then rinsed everything off with some water. This seemed to make the solution go a little further before it was so nasty it wasn't doing any good. Then I would rinse out the scrubber, use just plain water in and go through the process again. This gave it a nice little final touch. If I was washing the entire bike, I would finish that next, dry the bike the chain and add my favorite lube. I am not sure of the effects of the cleaner on tires, but I would always remove the wheels and or just make sure they were well rinsed off.

The parts in the scrubber are replaceable and can be ordered directly from Park Tool if need be, which is very nice and most Lubricants can be picked up at your local shop. I can't really say a whole lot more about a cleaner besides the fact that it works and it works well and can save the life of your chain and cassette, and at over $130.00 for an XTR cassette and $40.00 for a chain, I am willing to make a small investment to get more life out of my gears.
