Well all that looks good on paper, but what about real life? Well when I pulled these fire engine red racers out of the box, and the first thing I thought was, man I am not fast enough to wear these. They are bright and bold and just look fast. The first couple of times I wore them out and about to get them broke in I was a little embarrassing.
But once I hit the trail, and got them a little dirty, I felt right at home. Cushioning was so up to Nike's standard, with both fore and heal using Nike's Air Zoom units. Top was lightweight, holds the foot good, and is narrow enough that your foot is not sliding around (might not fit a person with wide feet).
Well off to the trial. Run #1 was an easy 6 miler on the bike trail and some side trails. Run #2 was the 2007 Muddy Paws Trail Race (10 miler) so I thought this would be a great chance to break them in. Aside from a pretty fast pace from the gun (was not the shoes fault) they worked like a champ, no blisters most importantly. Run #3 .... The Buckeye Trail 50k. 31 miles would be the true test. I admit around mile 12 I was getting a little worried, with hot sports forming on my feet. At this point there was was no turning back (except at the turn around) so I kept running. After the race, I pulled on the Air Kyotees, then my socks waiting to see the grand daddy of blisters, and nothing. I was sold. For the 3rd run in a pair of shoes to be 31 miles, and no problems, I was pretty thrilled.
