Biemme Rain Jacket
When it comes your turn to do some product reviews and you get the rain jacket, it is like taking one for the team or getting the short end of the straw. Neither the less, It means it is time to ride in the rain, and here in Ohio we usually have our fair share of it.
The jacket itself is a standard transparent shell style make of Nylon and Velcro. the one nice thing about this shell was the durability in the stitching on all the seams. Everyone of them was done up top notch, which is important when we are talking about something that can. Jackets I have seen in the past have had the seams torn out pretty easy but that did not seem to be the case here, I defiantly put it through the ringer.
The sides have a vented material (I have no idea what exactly the material is) that allows it to breathe a little more easier so you don't get quite as warm or so you do not get soaked with sweat. Unfortunately this thing is still pretty warm if the temperature is above 60. This is by no means an insult to the jacket, it is just natural of any rain jacket. The front is brought together with Velcro for easy on and off, while the sleeves are elastic on the ends to keep out the road spray and the back is a little longer to keep the booty dry.
As far as fit goes, the "body" portion seemed pretty true to size, the arms though seemed to be about an inch or so short, but I have this problem with a lot of clothes both cycling and casual. The back had a "tail" that was to keep water off of your butt, but in a good rain, you are still getting wet.
The suggested retail price on the Biemme rain jacket is $22.00 which is very reasonable, most others I have seen have been in the $25.00 to $30.00 range.
As far as drawl backs go, I really can't think of any. It does the job, seems durable, reasonably priced. If I had to be picky, I would say that the material could be a little thinner so it folds easier in your rear pockets. Oh yeah, and you have no excuse not to ride in the rain.
